This is c64 colors, would show on a real c64 with a doublesize pixels hack in afli every other line, but nobody offered to code it in so toss it, I'll just post it here and let it be. It's not a ringwraith, before someone asks. It's from the Cthulhu Mythos.

What story was this guy mentioned in?  I don't remember it, but I can't claim to be an authority on Lovecraft.

user
Mohak (Level 1 Rookie) @ 9/1/2008 13:29

user
Pok3' (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 3/17/2008 11:37

 brilliant

user
Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 6/20/2007 05:53
Because I no longer see the point of doing any of that. I don't even own a c64. I know the limitations, I might as well make art for it independently of the machine.

user
Skurwy87 (Level 6 Made) @ 6/20/2007 05:01
Hmm. . . haven't you asked the guys from CSDb? I bet they would be willing to fuck about with it a little. :)

user
Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 6/19/2007 21:43
With some fucking about, yes, it would sure run.

user
Skurwy87 (Level 6 Made) @ 6/19/2007 16:54
Bewitching! . . .and you say it would run on a real thing? Wow! What a pity there's no chance to see! 5/5/F

sorry, i'm new here so i tought it was for compo. sorry again.

user
Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 5/1/2007 06:22
What compo? This isn't art made for a pixeljoint competition, styler.

user
styler (Level 1 Rookie) @ 5/1/2007 01:54

where are trees ? somewhere in the dark? it is nice anim but not for this compo, i think!

user
Turbo (Level 1 Rookie) @ 4/29/2007 16:52
The glow effect on the robes, and the folds are really well executed! Nice work with the palette, as is usual from you. The fire animation looks odd, the fire tendrils spoil the composition, i'd take them out and leave the (nice) animation effect of the fire ball.

philipptr (Level 4 Team Leader) @ 4/28/2007 07:53
very stunning work with the c64 palette. the flame animation looks great, but somehow I don't like the light changing. I think there's a too big difference from one frame to the next in some areas. looks a bit like just blinking here and there. I don't really know if it's fixable with so few frames/the c64 restrictions, so if you know that it's not possible to do it better just don't mind my critique ;)

user
ScarredShadow (Level 4 Deputy) @ 4/27/2007 17:49
that picture is amazing.

user
macula (Level 6 Hitman) @ 4/25/2007 08:32
The animation on the flames is great.

user
Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 4/25/2007 08:20
Thanks for the kind words. The 'face' in the cape wasn't intentional, no.

user
DJD (Level 4 Button Man) @ 4/25/2007 04:35
This is probably one of my favorite usages of the c64 palette. Awesome work helm ( yus another cthulhu mythos piece!)

When I saw the preview pic, heres what I thought the picture was:

Haha I must be KRAZEE and I SEE PEOPLE WHO ARNT THERE
(or was it meant to be ambiguious? You ambiguious person, you!)

user
Setzer (Level 8 Cannibal) @ 4/25/2007 03:00
I didn't really connect it with anything other than an old man in a raggedy robe before reading the description. Looks great, although there is something about the flame that bothers me.

user
iLKke (Level 9 Nidan) @ 4/25/2007 02:27
Hey, isn't it Hastur from 27C?
Love Lovecraft and love your style.
And it was about time, you lazy bitch

user
Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 4/25/2007 01:44
nice helm :) good work

user
Presley (Level 1 Seaman) @ 4/25/2007 01:22
Wow, brilliant, especially the use of pure black. Reminds me most of Saruman, because of how his cloak was described as being many colours at once.

user
Mrmo Tarius (Level 10 Master Sniper) @ 4/25/2007 00:41
omg it's voldemort lol :)
just kidding (voldemort is lame- this pic's great)...

the animation is a really nice touch :)

user
Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) @ 4/25/2007 00:12
the only complaint i have is that the glow jump too much for the type of flame, imo anyways.

kick ass though.

user
gorgothon destroyer (Level 1 Depressed) @ 4/24/2007 23:53
reallly nice. this is amazing, but mostly epic.

user
Opacus (Level 7 Ichikyu) @ 4/24/2007 23:47
Your understanding and applying of colours still amazes me Helm. If you zoom in the on his hood it just looks like alot of mixed random colours, but when you zoom out it looks amazing. I just can't start to understanding. Keep creating this beatifull stuff! 7/7 fav

user
grave (Level 8 Marshal) @ 4/24/2007 23:33
Well whatever it is. It is great :D

user
Badassbill (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 4/24/2007 23:20
Really love the lighting from the flame.
