Note to self: do not try to enter a challenge with only 1 day left to do it. I can't see straight any more! So it may not be my best work, but it has a story:

My platform mockup is based upon the Epic of Gilgamesh, tablet 9 specifically:

Tablet nine opens with Gilgamesh grieving for Enkidu and roaming the wild clothed in animal skins. Fearful of his own death, his object is to find the legendary Utnapishtim ("the Faraway"), and learn the secret of eternal life. Among the few survivors of the Great Flood, Utnapishtim and his wife are the only humans to have been granted immortality by the gods. Early in his travels, Gilgamesh crosses a mountain pass at night and encounters a pride of lions. He prays for protection to the moon god Sin before sleeping. Then, waking from an encouraging dream, he slays the lions and takes their skins for clothing. Eventually, after a long and perilous journey, Gilgamesh comes to the twin peaks of Mount Mashu at the ends of the earth. The entrance, which no man has ever crossed, is guarded by two terrible scorpion-men. After questioning him and recognising his semi-divine nature, they allow Gilgamesh to pass and travel through the mountains along the Road of the Sun. He follows it for twelve "double hours" in complete darkness. Managing to complete the trip before the sun catches up to him, Gilgamesh arrives in a garden paradise full of jewel-laden trees.

[So in the mock-up Gilgamesh just reached the end of the road in the darkness and finds the garden paradise.]

Just to throw a little more Assyriology out there: the powers Gilgamesh can select are 1. fire (when Shamash offers him his protection at the start of his quest), 2. earth (or cedar, when Gilgamesh defeats Humbaba the guardian of the cedar forest) and 3. wind (I know it looks like water) (when Gilgamesh defeats the Bull of Heaven). He will collect more powers throughout the (non-extistant) game.

Since characters are definitely not my forte, the sprite is inspired by a Mesopotamian warrior by PHATandy at DeviantART: http://phatandy.deviantart.com/#/d3iw1a7

Looks like a lot of thought went into this. Looks great to me.

That desertscape is lovely! I also like the patterns you made with the bricks.

This looks great. however I think that there must to be more concordance between the outlines specially reffering to the bricks on the wall of the house in relation to the ones at the border of the door. same hapens with the tiles down there.

Anyways for just one day of work this is amazing.

I don't think I am that Zenobia. It's my real name, which is why it is easy to use in these places. People just assume I made it up =P

And thank you!

Love that foreground, nice color choice.

The only thing that distracts it for me is the far background dunes, they look like rough seas.

You did this in one day. OMG, what...

I love the colour choices and the details on everything! At first glance, the player character looked like Iron Man to me for some reason haha.

I like how you didn't just make a plain health bar, but twisted it up a bit :D I also like the pose of the character.

this is super cool. I'd totally play tthis one, and the little treasure chest is adorable

Thanks guys. I agree, particularly about the left-side platform. I just ran out of time to fix it, but I will if I do a re-make in the future. I'd like to do a proper Mesopotamian temple or palace as well instead of a house - their mudbrick 'architecture' does not really speak to the imagination.

I don't like how the character and the house are inferior to everything else while they should be the highlights. Still the rest is so awesome that I'm probably going to vote for this.

Beautiful!

Because the pattern on the left side platform is irregular, it looks as if it had a different perspective. Could be easily fixed by slanting that pattern I guess. Also, the outlines of the house corner stones are not helpful, the wall could use a slight texturing.

Agree about late challenge attempts! =)
