this is incredible

Friend (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 1/5/2012 12:37

wow, this is insane

Delicious (Level 9 Boss) @ 1/1/2012 13:48

Incredible job.

The shadows for the far left group of trees are really inconsistant considering the light is being shined directly from the middle, which'll mean the shadow should be tilted further to the left. Also, I feel that this piece lacks balance. Everything in the scene is literally in the same horizontal line. You should've put a few trees or plants closer to the viewer.

Regardless, it's pretty dang beautiful. Especially the colors.

Dex (Level 11 CEO) @ 1/1/2012 12:32

great stuff, love the colors!

skeddles (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 1/1/2012 11:22

Really awesome grass, man

philippejugnet (Level 6 Hitman) @ 1/1/2012 11:00

really nice, I am going to study that pixel

I think the perspective of the shadow could be better

@Manupix: best pixel this year? its the first day of 2012! but it is really good

Manupix (Level 11 Godfather) @ 1/1/2012 09:21

Definitely the most ambitious ss piece this year
I think some of the points that have been commented about are what give it its strength and originality, even though you didn't entirely succeed in turning them just right. I wish I knew what just right is, too!

My nitpicks: the tree shadows should converge somewhere, preferably behind the bot's midheight; the flat blue zones between trees look like colored glass panels, like an open sliding glass building door (this is probably what Gecimen means).

Who's Robert?

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 1/1/2012 05:50

The first pixel added to the gallery in 2012.

Gecimen (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 1/1/2012 02:51

The robot is not boring...

The tone of blue in between the middle trees are so much brighter than the darker tone that it seperates that part. I thin it should contain some gradient.

jeremy (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 1/1/2012 02:47

I've only done 4 things in the past 3 months :p

Agreed that the robot is boring/not a good focal point. As |||| said, I intended a UFO doors opening  > mist/white light kind of effect. The horizon line thing I have definitely messed with that :/

|||| (Level 8 Marshal) @ 1/1/2012 02:20

With the way it fades out so quick it looks like it is being sent by a UFO which explains the intense blue light and the curling smoke.

This is spooky I love it!

Clever work with feathering the shadows on the bristely grass-blades, a well-done gimmick.

Wow, Eyvind Earle was a heck of an illustrator. What a mind.

I have two points of consideration here:

1. Spacial Reasoning. The gradual transition between foreground and background is non-existent. It's as if, just after that row of trees the terrain dips down immediately and doesn't emerge back into our point of view until what we see is miles away. This makes the peiece feel ill-constructed and poorly grounded.

2. Focal Point. The main char is lack-luster. Appearing generic in concept and inanimately stiff in form. I dare say there isn't a single thing creative about him; looks like a simplified medieval knight Wizard of Oz Tinman with glowing eyes and MegaMan canons.

Thumbs up on the colors, though. Nicely atmospheric. In terms of PA, you're far more productive than I am, which I really regret, so I hope you can take my crit as strictly posotive. I'm happy you had the determiniation to finish such a big peice and I'd be honored if you'd made this for me.

SwissedToast (Level 1 Rookie) @ 1/1/2012 00:30

I feel the straight lines disrupt the overall feeling. Really amazing though. Lovin the details on the grass and the smoke.
